BricsCAD Key features

Familiar CAD Interface

The BricsCAD interface will make you feel right at home from the very beginning. Navigating through drawings becomes easier than ever, thanks to a distinctive ribbon. It's the fastest way to access tools through our tabbed CAD interface.

This is your drawing control center. From The Drawing Explorer you can see all your object definitions, and work with them across all your opened drawings. Browse through and view drawings in your favorite folders, or even insert blocks without ever opening the source drawing. Connect to your Chapoo account to share and manage your drawing projects in the cloud, and create and work with your projects sheet sets.

Intelligent UX Tools for Optimal Productivity

Speed up your workflow with the QUAD™ cursor.
With the redesigned context-sensitive cursor, easy CAD drawing is just a click away.

QUAD for 2D Drafting

The intelligent Quad cursor is an alternative to grip editing entities. While grip glyphs accumulate clutter, the Quad cursor, with its compact size, keeps your screen clean. It does come with a rich set of editing operations. And it's intelligent: the Quad cursor knows in how many dimensions (2D or 3D) you are drawing and immediately adapts to show commands you need.

QUAD for 3D Modeling

The Quad cursor intuitively adjusts to 3D workflows. Features such as extruding faces with just one click improve easy drawing in CAD. You can also manipulate solids using the Quad's options, such as subtract and push/pull.

QUAD Tabbed Layout

The enhanced QUAD features a new, tabbed layout that provides more functions right at your cursor tip.

Look-from Widget

Easily change your view direction using the Look From widget. Just click the arrows surrounding the chair icon to manipulate the viewpoint.

Settings Manager

The Settings Dialog reports and modifies the current value of all settings in your CAD interface. Sort settings alphabetically or by category (tree view). The instant search feature finds settings quickly and intuitively.

Hotkey Assistant

When edge and face selection modes are active, the new Hotkey Assistant displays options available. Cycle through them by tapping the Ctrl key.

Better Workflow Management

Sheetsets Manager

A sheet set is a collection of layouts from different drawing files. The Sheet Set manager lets you manage existing sheets sets and create new ones from scratch or based on a template sheet. Sheet sets can be published, printed and e‐transmitted.

Layer Explorer and Filter

The layer explorer facilitates detailed layer management and also provides tools such as layer filters and layer states.

Block Manager

Browse blocks in non-open drawings and insert them in the current drawing from the new Blocks panel in the Drawing Explorer.

Document Tabs

Open multiple documents at once and switch between them at any time.

Attribute Management

The BATTMAN (Block Attribute Manager) command allows users to edit all attribute properties and settings in a block definition, then synchronize the changes in all block references.

Work together in the cloud with Chapoo

Chapoo unites people with different roles in projects. Communicate, manage documents, assign tasks and automate processes. Manage live data in the cloud with forms and reports - anytime, anywhere.

After drawing your plans in BricsCAD, you can upload your dwg's to Chapoo including all x-refs, straight from BricsCAD. Team members who don't have BricsCAD can view and annotate .dwg files at the construction site with the Chapoo tablet app.

Keep track of different versions of your documents with the help of revisions. Define who gets to see what documents. Create roles for the different types of participants to the project and manage the access rights for each role.

2D Drafting

Create and edit 2D technical drawings, floor plans, and other layouts quickly and accurately. Thanks to its innovative 2D drafting tools, BricsCAD takes your drawings to a whole new level of detail.

Annotative Scales

Annotative scaling allows you to display and print models at the size you want. In a 2D drafting environment, you can scale entity types such as texts, hatches, tables, dimensions, tolerances and (multi)leaders.

Multi Leaders

Multi-line leaders quickly create many leaders using predefined properties saves as styles. You can annotate multileaders with text or blocks, or you can leave the annotation field empty. Additional formatting includes arrowheads, spline leaders and linetypes.

Dynamic Dimensions

Dynamic dimensions interactively specify lengths and angles right on the screen, as entities are created and edited. The added level of detail facilitates your transition from 2D drafting to 3d modeling.

In-Place Editing of Dynamic Blocks

Dynamic blocks can be edited in-place using various grip types, including Point, XY, Linear, Polar, Rotation, Flip, and Visibility.

Transparency

Use the new transparency effect to improve the look of your drawings, such as applying it to solid fills and other objects. BricsCAD lets you set the level of transparency, apply the property directly to objects, and assign transparency through layers.

Dynamic Arrays

Arrays are associative and dynamic. Create rectangular, polar, linear, path, and 3D arrays dynamically. Associativity means that when you edit one object, the changes are applied to all other objects in the array.

Dimension Style Compare

You can compare dimension styles you've selected in the in the Detail View list in the Dimension Styles explorer. The Editor panel shows a comparison table highlighting the differences.

Web Map Services

The Map Connect function places maps from Web-based map services into drawings. One or more data layers can be selected for download, which are then inserted in drawings as images.

3D Direct Modeling

With BricsCAD, you get powerful and adaptive tools for 3D direct solid modeling using our geometric constraints solver. 3D direct modeling operations apply to all ACIS solid geometry, whether created in BricsCAD or imported. Need to work on a complex design? BricsCAD's direct editing capabilities preserve your 3D model's design intent, helping you to save both time and headaches.

Surface Entity Creation

Start from 2D profiles, 3D curves, 3D solids, or imported parts and assemblies. Create complex parts with lofted bends or automatically recognize them in imported geometry.

Lofting

Use BricsCAD's new Loft command to create 3D solids by specifying cross section profiles. The cross sections define the shape of the solid.

Twist

Create engineering objects like drills or augers by twisting 3D solids, surfaces, and regions around an axis by an angle that you specify.

Thicken

Use the thicken tool not only on surfaces, but also on wire objects such as lines, circles and curves to create tube-like objects with just couple of clicks.

3D Drawing Compare

3D compare opens two drawing files and then reports the differences in 3D solids and 3D surfaces using color coding. This lets you quickly see the changes made to otherwise identical-looking drawings. The differences are represented as separate entities displayed in two viewports - red entities for additions, green for subtractions.

Assembly Modeling

Assemblies organize parts as hierarchical structures for modeling complex products. Use BricsCAD's powerful 3D constraints (geometrical and dimensional) to easily compose assemblies as top-down or bottom-up designs.

Assembly Design

Working with components is much more flexible as BricsCAD provides these additional operations:

  • Open a copy of a component as a new document
  • Replace components
  • Switch between external and local components
  • Convert native blocks to local components
  • Convert referenced drawings (xrefs) to external components

Assemblies Import

With the updated BricsCAD Communicator add-on, you can import product structures from files in popular MCAD formats, such as Solidworks, Inventor, and Creo.

When importing 3D models, BricsCAD automatically heals geometry, as necessary. In addition, you can repair and simplify imported models, as well as stitch disjointed surfaces.

Parametric Components

Designing with parameterized components is significantly extended. You can create parametric components from constrained 3D solids, as well as copy and paste parametric components across assemblies. when replacing one parametric component with another, parameters are automatically evaluated according to expressions specified by the assembly.

Generated Drawing Views

The Generated Drawing View feature is completely reworked. After it creates correctly projected views of 3D models, you can change their scales and toggle the visibility of hidden lines. In addition, you can specify the design of sections views, section lines, detail views and detail symbols.

600 High-Definition Render Materials

Be more creative with realism. Our updated library with render materials now contains well over 600 high-resolution Redway materials. Use the library and the preview window to render your 3D direct models more true to life than ever before.

3D Constraints

BricsCAD offers powerful tools for direct solid modeling using geometric constraints solving. Solid models can be modified by defining constraints between its elements. If there is a 3D constraint which fixes the placement of faces or edges, this constraint will be preserved during your modeling operations. It allows you to parametrize any feature of the 3D model.

Support for Photometric Lighting

Rendering of 3D models is improved by using IES files with Web lights. This lets BricsCAD accurately depict the exact distribution of illumination, according to manufacturer specifications.

Roll-Over Property Display

Hover the cursor over any entity and the QUAD will display its relevant properties.

Unit Display

While modeling the QUAD will instantly display relevant unit property data.

3D Snap

Vertex, Midpoint, Center, Knot, Perpendicular to planar face, Nearest to face, intersection of edges and tracking lines with faces

Generated Drawing Views

The Generated Drawing View feature is completely reworked. After it creates correctly projected views of 3D models, you can change their scales and toggle the visibility of hidden lines. In addition, you can specify the design of sections views, section lines, detail views and detail symbols.
